Reseller: A reseller open parenthesis such as web hosting company close parenthesis interacts with a Registrar on behalf of registrant.

Registrar: Registrars are organizations accredited by I C “A” N N and certified by the registries to sell domain names.

I C “A” N N: Accredits Registrars and coordinates the activities of the T L D Registry Operators.

T L D Registry Operator: Responsible for maintaining authoritative list of all domains for a particular T L D.

Step 1: Registrant searches for available domain, typically using web portal of Registrar or Reseller.

Step 2: Registrar queries the relevant T L D Registry Operator to see if requested domain is available.

Step 3: If domain is available, then Registrant will pay for the domain and provide the necessary W H O I S information, such as, contact name, mailing address, and D N S server addresses.

Step 4: Registrar pushes W H O I S information about new domain to T L D Registry Operator.

Step 5: Registry operator adds W H O I S Information for new domain to its authoritative list.

Step 6: Registry operator will push D N S information for new domain out to its name servers for the T L D.
