The figure shows two rectangular vertical blocks, the first block is labeled Client kernel and the second block is labeled Server kernel. The Client kernel block consists of six layers. The first layer is a rectangular block labeled System called layer. An arrow is pointing from the first layer to the second layer and the second layer is a rectangular block which is labeled Virtual file system layer and consists of three small squares, an arrow is pointed toward these squares and labeled V node. Three arrows are pointing from the second layer to the third layer which consists of three square blocks which are labeled Local FS 1, Local FS 2, and an NFS client. Three arrows are pointed toward the fourth layer consisting of a rectangular block labeled Buffer cache. Two arrows are pointed from the fourth layer to the fifth layer consisting of two blocks labeled Driver, and another two arrows are pointed from the fifth layer to the sixth layer consisting of two cylindrical bodies labeled Local disks.
