WILLIAM URY, cofounder of the Harvard Negotiation Project, is one of the world’s best-known experts on negotiation. He is the coauthor of Getting to Yes, an international bestseller with over thirteen million copies in print, and author of seven other books including Getting Past No and The Power of a Positive No.
For the past thirty-five years, Ury has served as a negotiation adviser and mediator in conflicts ranging from boardroom battles to coal mine strikes to wars in the Middle East, Latin America, and the Caucasus. He has taught negotiation and mediation to tens of thousands of leaders in business, government, and civil society around the world.
Ury is founder of the Abraham Path Initiative, which seeks to inspire understanding, prosperity, and hope by opening a long-distance walking trail across the Middle East retracing the journey of Abraham and his family. Trained as a social anthropologist, with a B.A. from Yale and a Ph.D. from Harvard, he lives with his family in Colorado.
